Zanesville Catholic Youth

Welcome Zanesville Catholic Teens!

This website is meant to give information about the Catholic Youth Group in Zanesville, Ohio.  Zanesville Catholic Youth is open to all high school students who would like to learn more about their Catholic faith with other Catholic teens.  The Youth Group is a joint ministry of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and St. Nicholas Church, the two parishes serving Catholics in Zanesville.

Generally, our regular meetings will alternate between St. Nicholas (on Sundays) and St. Thomas (on Mondays).  A full calendar is provided in the Calendar section.

CalendarUPDATE:  The new Calendar of meetings and events for the 2009-2010 school year was posted to the Calendar page.

As a young person, part of your regular life should be the discernment of your vocation.  The fathers of the Second Vatican Council and the Catechism discuss three main types of vocation in the Church:  Priesthood, Consecrated Life, and Marriage.  To see some links to various sites that might help in your process of discerning your vocation, see the Vocations section.

All who are High School aged are invited to attend.  You can come to as many events as you can — whether you can come just once or whether you can come every week.  We’ll also have other events throughout the year apart from the regular meetings.

Bring a friend!

Catholic Camporee

The Catholic Commitee on Scouting is sponsoring a Catholic Camporee from Friday, May 15 to Saturday May 16.  The Camporee is different this year in that all youth are being invited to participate.  As a part of the Camporee, there will be a one-day program (on Saturday, May 16) for grades 1-5.  For grades 6-12 there is the weekend program from Friday to Saturday.  The theme will be “Saints, Angels and Heroes.”

Catholic Camporee is modeled after World Youth Day celebrations that the Pope holds at locations all around teh globe every third year.  At the culmination of WYD, youth sleep under teh stars holding vigil for the Lord.  Since many youth cannot attend WYD, Bishop Campbell wanted them to be able to experience something similar here in central Ohio.  There will be youth-led discussions, games, campfires, skits and sings, service projects, Adoration, Confession, and Mass.

Participants will need to bring their own tents, sleeping gear, and cups. All other dining utensils will be supplied. Provisional camping is available with early registration.

This year, the Camporee is practically in our own backyard.  It will be held at the Dominican Church of St. Joseph in Somerset, the birthplace of Catholicism in Ohio.

If you would like to attend, please contact the parish offices.
